SUMMARY:Film Night
DESCRIPTION:Kalein Film Night at Expressions Cafe – Monday October 31st – 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm \nFrances Weller has a wonderful way of speaking about grief.  One idea he explores is holding grief in one hand and gratitude in the other and then carrying them together.  The second film we will view is with EMT Matthew O’Reilly talking about a profound shift he came to when attending an emergency and being asked by someone – “Am I going to die?”.  After each film there will also be an opportunity for conversation amongst audience members. \nThis event will take place at Expressions Cafe\, on Ward Street.

SUMMARY:Death Cafe...A Living Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends: \n  \nLast Fall\, many of you either attended one or more of the Death Cafes here in Nelson at Kalein Centre\, or expressed an interest.  Death Cafe is part of an international movement started  in 2011\, which now has over 500 registered Cafes around the world. \nAs the founder saw it\, “Western society has long outsourced discussions about death to doctors\, nurses\, priests and undertakers. The result is that we have lost control of one of the most significant events we ever have to face.” (www.deathcafe.com) \nKalein Hospice Society is delighted to offer a series of three more Cafes this Spring on Wednesdays: March 30\, April 27 & May 25. \n  \nWe will inspire each other\, and co-create\, together\, a warm and respectful space\, in which we can explore the many dimensions of what death is for us.  We would like to invite you into a living conversation\, a dialogue\, an exploration\, and a discovery\, where we can experience each other both as students and teachers.  Perhaps by slowing down and inviting a deeper listening\, we might find ourselves in uncharted territory\, and support one another to find the courage to stay present to tenderness\, heartbreak\, deep love\, fear and gratitude\, that are all part of the mystery of life. \nReservations for a seat at each cafe will be limited to 25 people\, so please register early. \nConfirmations with additional details and information will be emailed to all registrants. \nOn March 30th Kalein welcomes Lori Simposon; mother of a 17 year old daughter who died unexpectedly in her sleep; Lori who has traveled through the loss and grief\, will share with us some of her experience and wisdom from that dark night. \nIn gratitude for all of life\, \nDr. Rosalyn Grady\, Counselor and Funeral Celebrant \nKim Bater\, Executive Director\, Kalein Centre \n  \nTo reserve your seat at the Death Cafe\, please register online: REGISTRATION FORM

SUMMARY:OPENING NIGHT – BETWEEN WORLDS
DESCRIPTION:OPENING NIGHT \nKalein is excited to host an art show – “Between Worlds-Bridging Life and Death in Four Acts” with Kootenay area artists – Gen Gagnon\, Rayya Liebach\, Maggie Shirley\, and Rachel Yoder. \nDoors open at 6:30 and the facilitated program begins at 7 pm. This means it is very important to arrive by 7 pm sharp as each artist will talk about their work briefly and then guide us through a process (questions\, writing\, adding to the work). \nThis is an interactive event not just a viewing of the art on display. The program will take place between 7 pm and 8:30 pm. There will be an opportunity between 6:30 and 7:00 and then again between 8:30 and 9:00 pm to visit\, enjoy appetizers\, and wander and view the art. \nKalein has an important focus on dialogue and education. Art has a way of shifting our perspectives and each artist will lead you in reflecting and in some cases expressing your thoughts about how their work influences your thinking about death\, dying and living fully at all stages of life. \nThe installation will be up for one month.
