Meet the Team

Lora Whitney

Program Manager

Originally from southern Ontario, I lived in Geneva, Switzerland for 12 years before moving our family to Nelson in 2007. I am passionate about supporting seniors in our region, and look forward to working with the Team at Kootenay Seniors to implement even more Programs to benefit our aging population.

Leslie Payne

Transportation Coordinator

I am very excited to be joining the team at Kootenay Seniors in providing a wide range of services and resources to older adults in the West Kootenay region.  I have a long and eclectic resume centered around a consistent theme of community building and connection.  I will be putting all of that experience to work as we strengthen and enhance the offerings of the Transportation Program throughout our region.

Our family chose Nelson as our home in 2012 and we are still discovering the unique and wonderful ways that our engaged and generous citizens work together to make life better for all. Creating a food forest around our home in Uphill Nelson and discovering the beauty of the lakes and mountains that surround us keep me energized.  Please say hello if you see me walking down the street or on a hiking trail.  I’d love to hear your story.

Coreen Gries

Home Support
Program Coordinator

I grew up in Manitoba moved to Nelson about 2 years ago to be closer to my family. I have always worked with seniors and feel very fortunate to be hired with Kootenay Seniors a job I am very passionate about.

Lynzee Bewcyk

Intergenerational
Project Coordinator

I am passionate about bringing people together and creating connections for folks in my community. I thrive when I can support community initiatives with my organizing skills. When I’m not spending my time caring for my community you can find me outside enjoying the beautiful landscape of the Kootenay region.

Emma Dresen

Transportation Program Assistant

I’m delighted to be working part-time with the Seniors Transportation program at Kootenay Seniors after completing my practicum here this spring and summer. Although I grew up in the prairies, I feel most at home surrounded by mountains and water, and I spend most of my free time hiking, climbing and running. I’m excited to support with increasing accessible transportation options for seniors in the West Kootenay and to be connected with this wonderful community!
