Zuckerberg Island Heritage Park & Chapel House

Description

Description

Zuckerberg Island houses the Russian Orthodox-style Chapel House- the former home of Alexander Zuckerberg. Alexander Zuckerberg was an artist, engineer, an intellectual, a teacher, and a friend. He was a man unique to his times and unique to Castlegar, BC. Zuckerberg was born, raised, and matured in a different land, with differing values and opportunities. He endured the trauma and uncertainty of the Russian Revolution. A few years after the revolution, he made the critical decision to leave Russia, and to continue his life elsewhere.

Mainly years following his death, the City of Castlegar bought his home and the land surrounding it. His home and sculptures are now preserved for viewing. The park is open during the daylight hours.

Please note: in order to access the island, you need to cross a suspension bridge. This may pose problems for those with mobility issues.
