Description

The Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP) provides income-qualified residential customers with a free home energy evaluation, energy-saving products and advice.

HOW IT WORKS:

Eligibility requirements

  • You must have a residential electricity account with one of the following utilities: BC Hydro, FortisBC or Nelson Hydro
  • You must live in a detached house, duplex, townhouse or mobile home
  • You must make no more than the annual incomes listed below:
    NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN HOUSEHOLD TOTAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME
    1 person $33,700
    2 persons $42,000
    3 persons $51,600
    4 persons $62,600
    5 persons $71,000
    6 persons $80,100
    7 or more persons $89,200

The program is completely FREE.

The first phase the agent would do the home evaluation, personal advice on how to save energy and they would install the following:

  • energy-saving light bulbs
  • faucet aerators for the kitchen and bathroom
  • water-efficient shower heads
  • water heater pipe wrap
  • exterior door weather-stripping

If eligible, the customer might be eligible for a second phase that may include:

  • an ENERGY STARĀ® certified refrigerator
  • attic, wall and/or crawlspace insulation
  • a high-efficiency natural gas furnace
