Human Library

March 18, 2017

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Join us Saturday, March 18 for the Nelson Public Library’s first Human Library. Check out a human “book” who has
a story to tell for an illuminating15-minute conversation.
The Human Library began in Copenhagen in 2000 with a youth organization called Stop the Violence. The groupwanted to create a safe place for conversation between individuals who have been exposed to prejudice or stigma,
and interested members of the community in order to dispel myths and create understanding. The project sparked
imaginations, and had been adopted by libraries worldwide. Want to be a book? Books are people who have a story to tell that could help to dispel assumptions or foster understanding. It’s a few hours of your time you’ll never forget. It just takes a bit of courage and a willingness to tell your story.
